Job Summary

 

Get to know the NJEDA Board Governance and Business Operations Compliance processes –

  • How the NJEDA Board and affiliated Boards function behind the scenes, and
  • How compliance regarding process and procedure is tracked and maintained.

 

NJEDA’s Governance Department is responsible for ensuring that the NJEDA Board and affiliated Boards function properly and that Board Members and staff have access to information needed to help guide decision-making.  The Intern will support the Governance Division in its efforts to create efficiencies related to the NJEDA’s Board Governance process. 

 

NJEDA’s Business Operations Compliance Department manages adopted Program Policies & Procedures as well as General Authority Policies & Procedures relevant to Program administration and other NJEDA business operations.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Governance Intern projects – under supervision:

  • Data Management & Organization - helping to update and maintain the various Document Libraries and Data Trackers that are maintained in SharePoint and are accessed authority-wide, including Delegations of Authority, sub-delegations of authority, and board and committee materials for all five (5) Boards supported by the Governance Team on Convene (governance software). Monitor board actions and take necessary steps to ensure updates are implemented as required.
  • Web Development - development and implementation of individual Board Sites in SharePoint (for each Board that NJEDA supports), creating pages and organization, as well as linking Board Memo and Slide Templates for Staff, and resource materials.
  • Assist with drafting board meeting scripts, public agendas, and committee meeting summaries.
  • Supports board meeting management and may attend NJEDA and related board and committee meetings as necessary.

 

Business Operation Compliance Responsibilities

  • Works to review and update policies for a variety of economic development programs to improve operational effectiveness and to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Works with departments and functions across the organizational to review and update general authority policies and procedures.

 

General

  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge and interest in public policy, public administration, project management and implementation.
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to analyze data, reports, and summarizing findings.
  • Experience in using Excel to create spreadsheets and perform basic analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff.
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn new software packages, such as SharePoint, WordPress, Microsoft Lists, and governance software, Convene.

  • Enrollment in an accredited degree program.

Position Requirements
