Job Summary

 

The Finance Intern will support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in a variety of initiatives and priority projects that advance the goals of the NJEDA (the Authority). Specifically, the Intern will provide analytical support for various fiscal projects such as comparisons of actual results to projections, preparation of updated annual forecasts, and spending plans for projects funded by State and Federal appropriations. In addition, the Intern may assist in the preparation of Fiscal Summaries of new projects which document narrative descriptions and funding sources. This will require close coordination with both Fiscal and Programmatic staff across NJEDA.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Assists the CFO in the preparation of the quarterly spending plan, which will integrate actual results to-date with a forecast for the remainder of the year. 
  • Assists the CFO in tracking of spending by programs funded by State and Federal appropriations. This requires analysis of data from NJEDA grant maintenance, and other systems and updating existing spreadsheets for new monthly activity  
  • Prepares fiscal summaries of new NJEDA projects. The summaries serve as documentation to identify funding sources and projected costs for new initiatives. 
  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned by the CFO. 

Qualifications

 

Required Skills and Abilities 

 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages. 
  • Understanding of Financial Analysis concepts such as income statement and cash flow forecasts, n 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and NJEDA staff 
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision 
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and NJEDA staff 
  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers. 

Required Qualifications 

 

Education and Experience Requirements 

  • Current enrollment in an accredited Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree program, or a recent graduate. Preferred majors: Accounting, Finance or Economics.
