    Job Summary

     

    This position serves as an advisor to the Vice President and analyzes the international trade landscape, devising foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction strategies for New Jersey.  This position will serve as the repository for international market intelligence, maintain the state’s country fact sheets, and in conjunction with the business development lead, track development activities and evaluate progress in meeting strategic priorities.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

     

    • Assists the Vice President with policy development, strategic planning, and coordination of FDI attraction strategies. 
    • Direct and assist in the preparation of analyses, reports, and other materials for policy and research projects.  This will entail assembling data sets, preparing charts, tables, and other graphics to visually depict trends, create and maintain spreadsheets. 
    • Maintains repository of market intelligence on specific “innovation economy” sectors and makes recommendations to the Vice President on which sectors and foreign markets to target.  Develop market intelligence tools and disseminate information to partners within the state government and private-sector. 
    • Monitor and identify key international trade issues, raising them as appropriate to the Vice President.  Analyze issues that could affect the New Jersey economy and propose actions.
    • Serve as primary point of contact for FDI data and ad hoc reporting on international trade and investment topics
    • Supports varying projects to advance the business goals of the International Trade Division as requested by the Vice President.
    • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer-focused work environment among division, EDA staff, and external customers.
    • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned.

     


    Required Skills and Abilities

     

    • Exceptional analytical skills with a keen focus on details; ability to create presentations to depict data in a clean, intelligible way for executive leadership.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of economic analysis techniques, interpreting data, and performing original analyses.
    • Ability to draft clearly and concisely, including the ability to make presentations to executive leadership.
    • Knowledgeable about international trade fundamentals, the role of the federal government and the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), and how federal trade actions affect the state.
    • Understanding of the capital structure of technology companies, with a focus on third party investors.
    • Keen ability to prioritize and work through overlapping projects; strong project management skills
    • Familiarity with various investment vehicles including Corporate investors, Limited Liability Corporations, Individual Investors and Trusts.
    • Ability to understand the business model for early stage technology companies and their specific needs.
    • Familiarity and interest in the “innovation economy” and entrepreneurial community.
    • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with a broad range of audiences including senior management, business and industry partners, as well as individual customers and prospects.
    • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling, and editing and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff.
    • Must be a critical thinker and possess rigorous analytical capabilities.
    • Solutions-oriented, good attention to detail and follow-up.
    • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constraints with little or no supervision.
    • Ability to learn and understand EDA and State programs which support the technology community.
    • Strong work ethic, ability to be proactive and responsive in a team environment.
    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff.
    • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly MS Excel, and the ability to learn new software packages.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or related fields.
    • Master’s Degree in Business/Finance preferred – equivalent to 1 year’s work experience;
    • Experience in international operations and financial services; prior experience working or living abroad preferred; public and private sector work experience preferred
    • Minimum seven years related work experience.
    • Experience in financial analysis.
    • Demonstrated track record of strong academic performance.

     

    Advanced degree or industry specific certification may be substituted for 1 year of experience

    Physical Demands

    • Occasional attendance at events outside normal working hours.
    • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as needed.

     

    Travel

    • As necessary to events, meetings, businesses, etc.

     

    Certificates and Licenses Required

    • Valid driver’s license.
