Overview

Manages customer relationships of a high-volume portfolio of jobs incentive customers for the term of the agreements understanding business trends and economic impact to the State of NJ.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Works independently to manage customer relationship for jobs incentive customers through the duration of the agreement period up to 15 years.
  2. Conducts site visits with incented business executives, consultants, and CPAs to understand the business’s operations, customer base, and industry trends.
  3. Works closely with customers, consultants, and CPAs to understand project completion timelines and to discuss requirements of the tax credit agreements, statutory requirements, regulations, and policies governing the programs. 
  4. Approves and advances capital investment and jobs certifications to the Division of Taxation for annual issuance of tax credits or grant payment.
  5. Facilitates the annual transfer of tax credits through the EDA process and the issuance of the certificate or reimbursement in accordance with the Division of Taxation requirements.
  6. Rescinds grants/tax credits when customers have violated statutory requirements or have not met the terms of their agreements.
  7. Reviews customer requests for modifications to agreements and prepares recommendation memoranda for approval. 
  8. Works with customers and the EDA’s Legislative Officer to identify pending legal issues which may impact the terms of the agreement.
  9. Attends Incentives Committee and NJEDA Board meetings to present projects and respond to questions from Board members regarding modification submissions and general program requirements.
  10. Provides data and relationship support to Governance & Communication, Senior Leadership and the Business Action Center regarding all projects.
  11. Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA staff and external customers.
  12. Performs other duties or special projects, as assigned.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

 

  • Excellent customer relationship management skills
  • Strong organizational skills and eye for detail
  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constraints with little or no supervision
  • Ability to manage a large, diverse portfolio of customers simultaneously
  • Must be able to develop a high level of proficiency in understanding and applying NJ statutory and EDA policy guidelines to effectively interpret Incentive Agreements
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; proficient in grammar, spelling and editing; and foster communications with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Must be able to work outside the normal business hours
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA staff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent professional experience in Business, Finance, or related field.
  • Five years’ plus work experience in Business, Finance, Insurance or related field
  • Experience with legal documents preferred

 

Advanced degree or industry specific certification may be substituted for 1 year of experience

 

Physical Demands

  • Minimal
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as needed

 

Travel

  • As necessary to events, meetings, businesses, etc.

 

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Valid driver’s license
